Mountain Lake Under Fire Sky
8" x 10" — Original Painting
A dark teal mountain rises from the left side of this 8"x10" canvas, its peak glowing white where the last of the sun catches the snow — and above it, the sky is on fire. Massive orange and gold clouds explode across a wide turquoise sky in thick, aggressive caulk strokes that swirl and billow from edge to edge, the texture so heavy that the clouds cast real shadow across themselves. The upper right corner blazes deepest orange, the upper left holds a band of clear blue — and between them, the fire clouds dominate everything. Below the mountain, a deep blue lake stretches across the middle of the canvas in horizontal caulk ridges that suggest still water reflecting the chaos above. The foreground is all tall grass: thick vertical caulk strokes in lime green, yellow-green, and deep forest green, pressed upward from the bottom edge in dense columns that feel like standing in a meadow at the water's edge. The whole composition is divided into three clear bands — fire sky, dark water, living green earth — and the caulk texture makes every band feel like a different physical material. Made by hand in Akron, Ohio by Jay the Painter. One exists. No prints.
