About Jay the Painter

Jay is an independent visual artist based in Akron, Ohio with a lifelong passion for painting as a form of personal expression. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Bowling Green State University in 1993, with a dual concentration in Painting and Printmaking — a rigorous fine arts foundation that shaped his mastery of color, composition, and mark-making at one of Ohio's premier university art programs.

That BGSU fine arts training — four years of intensive studio work in both painting and printmaking at Bowling Green State University — gave Jay the technical discipline and creative vocabulary that would eventually fuel his most original work. The printmaker's eye for layered structure and the painter's instinct for color and surface came together in a technique unlike anything being made anywhere in America.

Driven by a love of both art and education, Jay went on to earn a Master's degree in Teaching from Nova Southeastern University, spending years sharing his passion for creativity with students. But through it all, painting remained his truest calling.

"I live to paint as an expression of myself and the world around me."
