Butterfly

A butterfly with massive, heavily textured wings fills this 8"x10" canvas — each wing built up with thick raised ridges of caulk that catch the light and cast real shadows across the surface. Yellow, white, red, orange, and purple sweep across the wings in bold bands, the colors shifting and overlapping the way light moves through stained glass. The body is a deep crimson column anchoring the whole composition, and the background is a rich, moody cobalt blue with teal and green pooling in the lower corners — textured throughout, never flat. This is caulk art at its most expressive: a piece that looks different every time the light changes, and that no photograph can fully capture. Made by hand in Akron, Ohio by Jay the Painter.
